On issues and policy, Fred Thompson was my #1 pick all the way.
(Well, except for all that pro-life stuff that violates the 10th Amendment. But in all fairness, Roe v. Wade violates the 10th Amendment just as much. The decision belongs to the individual states, people.)
However, I'm dropping my support and have removed his banner from my site. Not because I'm a "fair weather fan" and only stick with the current front-runner. No, not at all. My reason for ditching Fred is because I'm disappointed with his efforts in this campaign. I just don't see him trying as hard as the others. In fact, while all the candidates are down in Florida campaigning their asses off, Fred is in Tennessee visiting his mom.
Who will I support? That's a tough decision. I've only got 2 weeks until Super Tuesday to decide.
In the end, I think we're screwed either way. All three democrat candidates are fundamentally communist, and the republicans will only nominate someone who demands we all pray to Jesus 24x7 with no consideration given to any other issues.
We're f*cked.

Just take a minute and look at Ron Paul... the ONLY provably honest candidate, the only candidate that has NEVER violated his oath of office and has NEVER violated the constitution.
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
Congressman Ron Paul is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535” on Capitol Hill.
Ron PaulRon Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren.
While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. In 1976, he was one of only four Republican congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan for president.
During that time, Congressman Paul served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary measures. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.
Ron PaulDr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th congressional district of Texas. He presently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.
Congressman Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one of his congressional colleagues to say, “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers’ ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are.” Another colleague observed, “There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few.”

A vote for Tila Tequila has more value than a vote for Ron Paul.
Tila Tequila has a better chance to be elected as Miss America, than Ron Paul has to be known as, Mr. President.
Thus you have accept the current playing field and act accordingly. It's called realpolitik.

Frank brace yourself for a President Hillary. The fix is in. Its more than obvious to me. The Democrats only propped up Bill Richards, Obama, and a cast of effeminate males to show us how diverse they can be. As far as the Republican party goes Mccain is weak weak weak. The rest just out right suck.
In regards to Ron Paul he would be lucky to get above 5 percent of the vote. Not voting and voting for him is the same thing. Some of the things he says I like but know he could not accomplish. A few weeks ago I heard him say he would put us back on the gold standard. Yeah right like he could pull that one off. Ron Paul is the type of guy who says things that look good in print. I highly doubt if president he could do 1/4 of the things he suggests.
I have decided I am not voting this time around. The choices in my mind have come down to 1) Do you want to be robbed and raped? 2) or Beaten and sodomized? You choose!!!

Great, so don't vote your conscious, don't vote for whom will do right for this country, instead by your logic either don't vote at all which means you have NO RIGHT to complain after the next election, so just shut your mouth as your not WORTHY of being an American if you choose to forgo one of your most important rights...one that thousands before you have died so you could have...great way to trample on their sacrifices.
OR, just vote for the popular guy or the one you think who will win...way to go looking like a follower and a sheep, while compromising your values to make sure you look good and or feel good that you "picked a winner"
Sad really....

Ron Paul is a hypocrite. If he lived up to his legend I'd vote for him. However, I have a serious problem with someone who claims to be a "strict Constitutionalist" and then preaches all about pro-life and is opposed to leaving that decision up to the individual states, which is REQUIRED under the 10th Amendment. On top of that, he sponsored HR 1094 which would have effectively banned abortion at the Federal level, negating Roe v. Wade and further ignoring and violating the 10th Amendment.
I'm not necessarily pro-choice, mind you, but I am pro-Constitution. Under the 10th Amendment, Roe v. Wade needs to be overturned and the decision MUST be left up to the individual states to decide, as they are empowered to do under the 10th Amendment. Do I condone abortion? No. However, I also don't condone smoking, yet I'm opposed to smoking bans. I'm opposed to reckless drivers, but I oppose photo radar for Constitutional reasons.
You get the idea.
I hate to keep bringing this up and making a big issue out of it, but at the end of the day we have a guy who claims to be Mr. Constitution and then he takes action and has a legislative record (both HR 1094 and HR 300) that suggest otherwise.
I also disagree with him on much of his foreign policy and defense stance, but it's the Constitutional issues that bother me the most, primarily because that's supposed to be the central theme of his platform.

You obviously don't know a thing about Ron or haven't taken the time to listen to him. HE WANTS TO TURN IT OVER TO THE STATES TO DECIDE!!! Its not the Fed's job and he keeps professing it.
Posted by: Matt | January 21, 2008 at 07:07 PM
Ok, if that's true then can someone explain why on earth he sponsored HR 1094 which would have effectively banned abortion at the Federal level, through legislation?

war_shu_duck.... ha! ron would be lucky to get more than 5% of the vote??? hows second place in Nevada with 14%, 10% in Iowa, 8% in NH, 6% in Michigan. and his worse showing yet of 4% in SC....
Frank I guess all the other candidates have just squeaky clean records and are all about the constitution? like over ruling California state laws on MM and throwing sick people in Jail..
And how much has the price of Gold increased? its a shame our dollar is backed by it...

We could talk about what a swell guy Ron Paul is in here tell 2012. The bottom line though is that he is not going to be our next President. I think a good number of people feel he has a kook factor of about 7.

Ron Paul sounds great until he begins talking about the war on terror, and especially when he starts into his nonsense on legalizing marijuana, cocaine, heroin, etc.

I don't think I could vote for a guy whose wife is young enough to be his daughter. That bothers me. I'm glad Fred dropped out. Go Hillary! Girl Power! I'm now off to protest something in my steel-toed work boots....
