I just read in today's news that auto repossessions are at an all-time high. People who can't make their mortgage payments are choosing to lose their cars before losing their homes.
Here's the thing - way back in 2001, when I first moved to north Scottsdale near Troon, I was already seeing the repo men cruising the street and pounding on neighbors' doors on almost a daily basis. And this was when Scottsdale was maybe 1/10th as fake and broke as it is now.
I can only imagine how bad it's gotten today.
I'd love to hear from anyone who's seen a lot of repo activity in their neighborhoods (I've already gotten reports of multiple repo men per day in infamous DC Ranch). Repo men are easy to spot - any tow truck that is either unmarked or has the word "recovery" in the name is a repo man.
What's also interesting to note is that under Arizona law, the moment you hit 90 days late on your car payment, your car becomes a stolen car and you can be arrested for auto theft. Hiding it from the repo man is a crime and you will go to jail like any other car thief - because that's exactly what you are if you haven't made your car payment in 3 months.
Based on this bit of news, I'm guessing Osamabama's next campaign promise will be "Free Cars for All!"

Don't hate. Your just mad that Mommy and Daddy couldn't afford to live in lovely Scottsdale. LOL you are so sad and pathetic. I'm from scottsdale and I don't see the repot man. Did he come for you little baby boy? Well maybe if I were raped in the butt like you when I was a child in the ghetto of phoenix I'd cry out against lovely Scottsdale too. Your comments are weak.......get a life. You talk trash about Phoenix and Scottsdale, GET THE HELL OUT!!!! We don't need you here anyway. Go to Malibu so you can be with the "real" rich people.

Elizabeth -
I'll make this really simple for you. I left Scottsdale to move to Newport Coast, CA, 92657.
Median incomes:
Newport Coast, CA: $366,800
Scottsdale, AZ: $39,158
Any questions?
Scottsdale is a joke. Accept it and get over it. You and everyone else there are failures.

ELIZABETH -
It should be you're and not your.
You must be another victim of AZ public schools.

Elizabeth,
Thanks for PROVING every point we make about Scottsdale folks on this website. Your comments are laced with immature, thoughtless and trite comments.
Could it be that there is no real redeeming quality about Scottsdale or the majority of its residents which is why you failed to include one single salient point that supports your defense of Scottsdale?
If you cant understand what I wrote Elizabeth let me know and I will re-type it using words with no more than 2 syllables so you can comprehend it.

With people like Elizabeth I'm never quite sure if they're insecure or just delusional.
But we shouldn't judge her because we "can't afford" to live in cheap banal Scottsdale ... LOL

Well I found Elizabeth's post to be like the typical disagreement with someone from Arizona. Its full of emotional response. There are no facts used to present her side of the argument. She is quickly reduced to insults. Her post wanders off into delusion and fantasy about sodomy (perhaps she has some sexual or power and control issues). I picture a rabid animal cornered and foaming at the mouth.

Liz,
$366K median income? Try again.
From WIKI:
"According to a 2006 estimate, the median income for a household in the city was $103,068, and the median income for a family was $147,697"
But even a $366K, what's you point? People get in over their heads making $30K, $300K or $3M. Stupidity doesn't go away simply because your bank account has more zeros.
Don't believe me? Look at the number of $1M+ homes being foreclosed on all over the country.
Posted by: ed | March 09, 2008 at 01:06 PM
Be careful what you read on Wiki. It's user-driven and a HUGE portion of the information there is entirely false. If you doubt this, read the Scottsdale wikipedia page which claims Scottsdale as very wealthy "high society" and also claims several celebrity residents who don't live there .... LOL ... I've attempted to log in and correct the lies on that page but whoever moderates it deletes *ALL* changes within a day. (Incidentally, Google is launching their own Wiki specifically because the current wikipedia is so full of misinformation.)
The $366k median for Newport Beach comes from the US Census, as does the $39k median for Scottsdale.
The point here is that people making $366k are *NOT* getting their $1M homes foreclosed on. The people getting foreclosed are the Scottsdale-type idiots who make $60 or $70k and "bought" a $1M+ home.
I bring up the fact that Newport Beach has nearly 10x the median income of Scottsdale simply to refute Liz's ignorant statement that I had to "run off" to Newport because I somehow couldn't afford Scottsdale, which in reality is middle-class at best and nowhere near "high society" as Wiki claims. I'm not posting those numbers to brag, I'm posting them simply to point out how low-income Scottsdale really is compared to a truly affluent town.
(There's also nothing wrong with a community's income, high or low. I'm not making fun of anyone who is lower or middle class. I'm only making fun of Scottsdale "$30k millionaires.")
Also, just as an FYI - and to further defend my current place of residence against all the bogus myths that ignorant Scottsdale assholes dream up - 58% of homes in N.B. are owned outright with no debt, we have the lowest foreclosure rate in Orange County (well below 1%) and one of the lowest in the state.
I'm just really tired and fed up with pissed-off, broke, jealous Scottsdale jackasses like Liz who trash every place they can't afford to live, entirely out of envy.
If anyone actually believes that Newport Beach is *ANYTHING* like Scottsdale, you need to spend a few days visiting here, meaning the part where people actually live and not the peninsula which is nothing but vacation homes (no locals live there) and full of tourists from Vegas and Phoenix/Scottsdale. You'll be shocked at how friendly, down-to-earth, and happy the locals are here.
Unfortunately, most people who visit here only experiences the touristy peninsula/harbor area, but even still, it's 10x nicer and friendlier than Scottsdale.

Frank - Help me out here as I just don't get it. Scottsdale is a city of approximately 250,000 people. Some are nice, some are not. Some are great people, some suck. There are plenty of people who have spent beyond their means, there are plenty of people who do quite well in life. I just don't understand your blanket assumptions that every inhabitant of Scottsdale sucks.
I am a young lawyer who lives in Scottsdale. Most of my colleagues and partners live in Scottsdale as well. They are good people. They are well educated. They are no different than many of the people I grew up with in Boston. My neighborhood has doctors, traders and small business owners - most of whom have great kids. Most of the stuff you so often refer to as commonplace in Scottsdale, well, quite frankly, I have seen none of it.
Crime is non-existent for the most part. None of my neighbors cars have been repossessed. And the vast majority of my friends also live in Scottsdale. They are from all over the country, and are also well-educated and good people. Some drive a Benz, others drive a Nissan - and no one cares. Frank, I have lived in Boston, Chicago and LA, and choose to call Scottsdale home. I certainly agree with you that there are thousands upon thousands of idiots, wanna-bees, and brain dead pretenders - there are also thousands upon thousands of good, hard-working successful people. For the most part, I like Scottsdale. I can see why some don't, but many here do. I guess my point Frank, is that anywhere you go will have good people and bad people and dumb people and smart people and nice people and mean people and so on and so forth ad nauseum. While I submit that Scottsdale might have more idiots per capita than most other places, that, in and of itself, does make Scottsdale a horrible place to live.
For purposes of reference, I lived in LA. The fact that you seem to claim that LA is not as fake as Scottsdale is almost laughable. I lived in Brentwood, off San Vicente. Yeah, LA is down to earth. Please spare me.
That being said, I happen to love everything about LA, from West Hollywood to Hancock Park - funny thing is, the only part I don't like is OC. But Frank, I most certainly have not dedicated my free time to making sure the entire free world is cognizant of my hatred of a particular part of a particular city. I even had the pleasure of living in Tulsa when doing a judicial clerkship. I hated every square foot of that place. The small minded people, the crappy food, the accents, the weather, and so on. Yet, when I moved away, that was it. No vendetta. I didn't feel the need to tell everyone how much I hated it and constantly attack each person who lives there. Instead, I moved on with my life. Some people like it there - and while I might disagree, who the hell am I to unilaterally determine that something, someone or somewhere sucks? On that note, who are you to do so?

Jeff, to be honest, I didn't read your entire post (way too long) but a few quick thoughts -
You're a young lawyer. That makes you a "high-value target" for golddigging, meaning Scottsdale women are being fake nice to you, something that they don't do for the majority. Also, if you're a lawyer then you probably work long hours and don't get as much exposure to the Scottsdale attitude as most people (I haven't had to work since 2003 so I was surrounded by it 24x7).
Also, on that note, women in Scottsdale were fake nice to me too when I wore a suit & tie to work every day. Then in 2003 once I never had to wear a suit again, they turned mean & bitchy, and when they learned that I was essentially retired at 30, they got downright furious and nasty out of envy.
If you're young then you're also in the "honeymoon" phase of living in Scottsdale. Most people like it initially. I did too. It takes a few years for it to get to you in many cases. But it will. Mark my words.
As a lawyer, you should be disgusted at the Scottsdale PD's contempt toward Constitutional rights and you should boycott the town on that basis alone.
LA is more real than Scottsdale. As multiple people here have pointed out, the so-called "Californians" you meet in Arizona are not from CA. I also wouldn't judge LA by Brentwood alone. That's like judging Scottsdale by DC Ranch alone which is the worst of the worst. You have to look at the big picture. For every fake person in LA there are 10 real ones. In Scottsdale, for every 10 fake people, you might find one real one.
You hate OC because everyone in LA is brainwashed to hate OC, just like everyone in San Francisco is brainwashed to hate LA, or everyone in Arizona & Nevada are brainwashed to hate all Californians.
As for me, as much as I hated living in Scottsdale, I had *NO IDEA* just how bad it was until I moved away.
Anyway, enough of my rant, I'm sure others will chime in on your "honeymoon" with Scottsdale.
PS: OC is not LA. Buy a map.

Jeff,
update us after you've lived and worked in Scottsdale for 5-6 years or so...Was a 15 year+ North Scottsdale resident and it took me a number of years to realize what kind of moral cesspool of an environment I was living in despite all the trappings of that fake lifestyle. Scottsdale ranks as one of the worst places in America to pursue a career, find a partner, raise a family and get involved in a community. My advice to you: don't make any long-term commitments there, you'll be out sooner than you can imagine once reality sinks in.

One more thought - Jeff sounds like the typical Scottsdale newbie who is in the honeymoon phase. I even sounded like Jeff my first year in Scottsdale. I thought the people who warned me about how rude and mean the locals are were just negative themselves. It took a while to wake up.
I give my girlfriend credit because she hated Scottsdale and saw the fakeness from day one. There was never any "honeymoon" phase for her.
