With my apologies to the few good people living in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area:
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Sure, it's amusing to me to see news of a heat wave when the high temperature was 84 today, and pleasantly dry, but 115+?
If you still believe that rich people actually choose to live in Scottsdale with weather like that, I've got some nice bridges for sale.
I see the t-storms are forecasted to start next week. Oh, how I don't miss monsoon season. 115 + humidity = hell. Enjoy it, Scottsdale, you've earned it!!
I've lived in Scottsdale for a year now after moving from Seattle. Yes, it's full of pretentious/phoney/nip/tick young people who also lack consideration on the road/forget getting a curteous wave from anyone on the road like you always receive in Seattle. And I just laugh at it and glad that I'm not like them nor do I let them get to me. But not everyone in Scottsdale is this way. If you are looking for a good real estate investment, great schools, low crime, clean streets, good food and shopping, Scottsdale is perfect for this area. Just ingore snobs. There are more questionable people that cross my path outside of the Scottsdale limits that make me more unconfortable than the snobs in Snottsdale.

To Debra,
My wife and I felt like you for the first 24 to 30 months after moving to Scottsdale in 1996, (and a much better place back then). By 2002/03 found it to be the most miserable, phony, soulless excuse for a home. Finally escaped this spring forever and very happy hence, after fulfilling certain family and business obligations. Talk to me about Scottsdale in a couple of years, if indeed you last that long.

This post is in response to the above post. With all due respect I spent 25 years in the Pacific Northwest and I cant see how you can make some of the statements you did in regards to Scottdale/Phoenix metro area. I find this to be a terrible place to raise children. Now would be a very bad time to invest in real estate. The shopping here sucks and is very limited (99 cent flip flops seem to be the shoe of choice for most AZ residence). The schools are horrible and filled with illegal aliens (many people send their kids to private schools who can afford it). The food/restaurants here are pathetic when compared to the those in Portland, Seattle, and Brittish Columbia. I dont consider nightly murders and 8-10 burglaries per zipcode per week low crime. Some of the senseless violence here is near middle east like levels. I also dont recall seeing beds and mattresses on the freways in the Pacific Northwest or broken glass and cans along side the road.
I am not trying to offend or start a fight the poster above but rather I think she is still in the honeymoon stage with this state. It took me 2 years to figure out just what exactly these people and this state is all about. When I moved here for the first year I was just happy to be out of the rain. I wish her luck and I hope she gets back to the site a year from now to let us know how things are going :)

Ok, let's be honest here. She moved from Seattle. As much as I hate Scottsdale, I'd still choose it over Seattle in a heartbeat. That's probably the worst U.S. city I've ever been to. Horrific dreary rainy weather day after day after day, combined with nasty miserable rude people who are in a zombified state due to daily Prozac ... not a nice place to live.
On the flip side, Debra, you're most definitely still in the honeymoon stage. Yes, Scottsdale has a lot of great restaurants. Yes, it's sunny all the time (well, except for monsoon season, which starts in the next week - get ready for 118 degree days with thick humidity and overcast skies ... it's literally hell on earth). No, it does not have good shopping, at least from a man's point of view. When the only clothes you can find in department stores are Tommy Bahama logo shirts and cheesy print golf shirts, the shopping isn't good. Not for someone under the age of 80, anyway.
On the crime issue, contrary to what you believe, Scottsdale has the highest property crime rate in the entire state of Arizona. It's very unusual to find someone who has lived in Scottsdale for a few years who hasn't had their home burglarized or their car either stolen or broken into. It's just part of the reality of living in Scottsdale. It's why I bought a gun while living in Scottsdale, got a permit to carry it, and began carrying it every day. I never knew when I'd come home only to find the bad guys in my house while the useless Scottsdale "police" department wasted their days sitting on street corners with radar guns.
The schools are among the worst in the nation. Look it up for yourself. Enough said.
The city government is one of the most corrupt in the U.S., if not the world. Just wait until you want to add an addition to your house and find out you have to bribe a council member to get it approved. Or wait until you are pulled over and arrested and convicted for DUI just because you have Tylenol in your purse (it sounds far-fetched, but it actually happened to someone I know, and she doesn't even drink).
Like the other commenters said, you're still in the honeymoon stage like I was for the first 1-2 years. You'll get over it fast.
But ... having said that ... I'd still choose Scottsdale over Seattle in a heartbeat. That's just the worst of the worst.

This is last months crime report for Scottsdale, can anyone say Somalia or Guatemala City? And these are just the "official" numbers, be assured that they are fudged. I am sleeping with a gun beside my bed and I live in a so called "high end" neighborhood. My ass. They should give this piece of junk back to the Indians or Mexico and be done with it.

I moved here from Seattle about a year ago and thought at first it was okay, but now absolutely hate it here. I can't imagine anyonoe wanting to live in this hell hole. I find the people here extremely rude. No one talks to anyone here. We were in Starbucks and were surprised when someone actually talked to us. Guess where they were from, Seattle! I think Seattle people are far more friendly and outgoing than everyone here. This really surprises me since most people are not from here in the first place. I can't wait to get out of this hell hole and say good buy to all the dust and dirt! I miss the culture of Seattle and the great restaurants. It seems all they have here are Mexican restaurants. I love Mexican food, but jeez not on every street corner. They are abundant here like Starbucks are in Seattle.
I would rather have the rain in Seattle to the dirt ugly look of this desert!

Wow after reading the previous posts I wondered if I lived in the same town as they were talking about. I have live all over this country of ours and visited Seattle. First it is the low humidity capital of the USA. The weather is terrific! 7 Great months, two so so and 3 that stink. Now be honest where else can you say that about a place that is affordable.
Friendly people! Snobby People! People are the same all over our country. You smile they smile, You say hello they say hello.Practice what you preach.
Our city is clean, Poor schools, well my youngest son went to public school here and he ended up being a respected Doctor that is liked in his community (this one). We have every kind of restaurants you can think of I really don't know where these folks live but it's certainly not Scottsdale voted a few years ago the "Most livable city in the USA"
Posted by: Don | July 28, 2007 at 09:42 AM
Don, wake up. Scottsdale was voted Most Liveable City in 1991. To put that in perspective, it's almost 20 years ago. Scottsdale is a VERY different place than it was two decades ago. VERY different. Hell, it's drastically different than it was just 5 years ago.
On the low humidity thing, two thoughts:
1. In summer, during the miserable monsoon season, it's the high humidity capitol.
2. The rest of the year I had miserable sinus problems due to the dryness. They disappeared since moving away. You can have your dryness.
Posted by: Frank Rumbauskas | July 29, 2007 at 11:59 AM
Frank Glad you left and stopped spreading germs. Low humidity means no mosquitoes, Low mold, and low sinus infection rates, You are weird man. As for Scottsdale changing a lot fast it because it is growing so quickly because it is so popular because it's so wonderful. Get it!
Posted by: Don | August 09, 2007 at 05:43 PM
Don,
You are a typical dumbass Scottsdale clown.
First of all: Scottsdale DOES NOT have low humidity in the summer! Ever heard of the monsoon? Fucksakes man, it's dryer here on the CA coast than it is in AZ during monsoon.
Second of all: Low humidity (the 9 months of the year that you have it) means VERY HIGH sinus infection rates. That's part of why I left Arizona. My sinuses hurt day after day after day after miserable day there. In the 6 months that I left your second-class town, I haven't had sinus pain once... ever.
You and all the other wannabes can have your scum town.
